Pastor’s Post: August 31, 2017 Fall Discipleship

August 31, 2017

Engage with God’s Word; Engage with Others.

We have a strong fall line-up of discipleship and outreach opportunities including adult classes targeted for men and women, a revamped high school and junior high class, a seminar on resolving conflicts and something new: Men’s Breakfast. Our prayer is that the Holy Spirit will edify his church as you are engaged with God’s word and with one another.

Sunday School:

September 10 is Promotion Sunday.

  • Junior and Senior High: This Changes Everything: How the Gospel Transforms the Teen Years. Gary Peterson and Brian Groot will lead the class on how your relationship with Jesus affects your life, including your identity, goals, growth, relationships and how you deal with sin. Great time to jump in!

  • What has God been up to in our prison? Bill Wilke, Brian Groot and Harry Matlack will report in the adult class on what they’ve seen God do through the jail ministry. Perhaps God may call you to be involved in that once/month ministry.

Men’s and Women’s Classes will begin on September 17:

  • Women’s Class: Learning Both to Love and to Pray Psalm 119. We will work together using resources that ‘open our eyes’ and ‘enlarge our hearts’ before God and His Word. Charles Bridges' exposition on Psalm 119 will be introduced with the goal of equipping you in godward responses to suffering and enticing you to continue the study of Psalm 119 in personal devotion and prayer.

  • Men’s Class: Need to grow in wisdom, courage and gentleness in caring for your wife and children? The class is based on The Shepherd Leader at Home, by Tim Witmer; we encourage you to purchase the book. Good training even for those who do not yet have families of their own.

Seminar:  Resolving Everyday Conflict

Everyone deals with conflict. We all naturally either avoid it or we attack others, or avoid then attack! May the Spirit teach us to practice constructive conflict, bringing healing and strength into our relationships. Great time to invite a friend to “Resolving Everyday Conflict,” beginning Wednesday night, September 21. Sign up on our website. (https://www.faithopchurch.org/resolving-everday-conflict). It’s important to register so we can arrange both for childcare and for food!

Men’s Activities:

  • Man Camp: September 29-30

Men of Faith, come to Man Camp! Man Camp is for the men of Faith Church to consider their roles as men of God and to know each other better. It is also an opportune time to introduce a friend to the fellowship of Faith Church. Register on our website (https://www.faithopchurch.org/man-camp-registration)

  • Men’s Breakfast, starting October 21, will meet monthly on the third Saturday to enjoy breakfast and to encourage and pray for each other. This fall we’ll draw on the teaching from the men’s Sunday school class on growing as husbands and fathers.

With a goal to Engage with God’s Word; Engage with Others, for the glory of God,

Pastor Dick Ellis
